SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — It’s a crisis triage center that’s been successful in its first five years of operation, but the Link is in need of new management.
Avera Health has operated The Link but isn’t submitting a proposal to continue in that role.
Yet, if no one else does, Thomas Otten of Avera says the Health System will continue its work, “It’s 24/7, 365, every single person that comes. There’s no wrong door. We accept everybody that walks through those doors and provide triage to every person that comes.”
Avera, Sanford, the city and Minnehaha County all agreed to fund the center at about $400 thousand each when The Link opened in 2021.
Since then, the city and county have increased their support to $600 thousand each, and Avera has stayed at the $400-thousand level, but Sanford has decreased its share to $200 thousand.
Officials are looking for answers, as The Link is expected to have a half-million-dollar shortfall next year.
