Senator John Thune, chairman of the Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Communications, says major internet companies continue to collect vast amounts of consumer information.
Thune says he heard concerns at a hearing he held last summer which led to him introducing new legislation.
Thune says most internet users don’t realize what is going on at the other end of the net.
The bill, with bipartisan sponsors, would require large-scale internet platforms to provide greater transparency to users and give more control to consumers over what they choose to view on online platforms.
