SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — It’s a waiting game in Minnehaha County. County Commissioners ended up in a deadlocked vote this week on ordinances to regulate proposed Carbon Capture Pipelines. The main question deals with safety setback zones. On “It’s Your Business” with Bill Zortman, Commissioner Dean Karsky called it a delicate balancing act.
The Minnehaha County Commission will take up the issue again in two weeks to break the tie vote on the setback ordinance. An interesting side note on the issue is the way county officials across the affected area are working together. The needs of their citizens are vastly different from county to county, but the assignment facing commissioners is essentially the same regardless of which county they represent. They are all wrestling with emotional conflicts as they decide how to regulate proposed CO-2 pipelines. Commissioner Karsky says county officials across the state are trying to learn from each other.
Minnehaha County Commissioners will try again on pipeline regulations in two weeks, after a deadlocked tie vote this week.
