SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Over the years, thousands of prescription pills have been popped – into the drop-off box at the downtown law enforcement center in Sioux Falls.
Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says the program has been incredibly successful.
“We’ve collected, since 2012, over 20,000 pounds of unwanted medication.”
When you drop off your unused or unwanted prescription drugs and pills, then they can’t wind up being abused. Prescription drug abuse is a national epidemic.
You can dispose of your old prescriptions Monday through Friday at the Law Enforcement Center, no questions asked, but there will be a special drop-off day this Saturday, as part of a national effort.
On October 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the police will partner with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Take Back program. During that time, the Law Enforcement Center lobby will open to accept medications for disposal.
