BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana defensive lineman Logan Swanson has been named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week the league announced Monday.
The junior helped the Vikings earn the Key to the City in a 20-13 win over Sioux Falls.
Swanson, hailing from Mankato, Minnesota, had two sacks totaling 15 yards while making eight tackles. In his first sack of the game, Swanson stripped the Cougar quarterback for a forced fumble, where teammate Grayson Diepenbrock recovered the ball and returned it to the USF five-yard line to set up the Vikings’ first touchdown of the day.
The Augustana defense held Sioux Falls, the league’s then No. 2 rushing attack with 248.7 yards per game, to just 38 yards rushing, with Swanson being a key cog in the process. The defense totaled 11 tackles for loss.
For the season, Swanson leads the NSIC with 4.5 sacks while his 1.13 sacks per game ranks 12th in the nation.
The Vikings travel to Bemidji State in the first North Division action of the season. Kickoff from Chet Anderson Stadium is slated for 2 p.m.
