SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A member of South Dakota’s Lower Brule Sioux Tribe said tribal officials are struggling to obtain sanitary supplies in an interview with Mike Henriksen.
“We’re contacting all these different suppliers, and a lot of them are sold out,” said Kansas Middletent, owner of the Rising Stars nonprofit, which helps provide resources to youth on the reservation. “So we’re on to the next, and it’s kind of the same story of ‘sold out,’ ‘sold out.’”
The tribe tested 70 people for COVID-19 Thursday; Middletent said that was all the tests they had supplies for.
Middletent said the tribe is accepting donations for items like masks, hand sanitizer and disinfectant.
Middletent and Henriksen also discussed how the public is responding to tribal checkpoints and the role the Dakota Access Pipeline plays in tribes’ dispute with Gov. Kristi Noem, among other topics.
