Flu Bug from SDDOH campaign.
PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Department of Health reports that they consider the influenza continues to be at the “widespread” level in the state.
Last week, there were 518 new confirmed cases. These included cases in the Sioux Falls metro area of Lincoln, Lake, McCook, Minnehaha, Moody, and Turner Counties.
Ten people were hospitalized because of the flu.
One person in Faulk County died.

Influenza activity was at “WIDESPREAD” level in South Dakota during the past week.
- 518 new confirmed* cases of influenza (491 Influenza A; 0 AH1; 26 AH3; 1 B) [Aurora, Beadle, Bennett, Bon Homme, Brookings, Brown, Brule, Butte, Charles Mix, Clark, Clay, Codington, Custer, Davison, Day, Deuel, Douglas, Edmunds, Fall River, Faulk, Grant, Hamlin, Hand, Hanson, Hughes, Hutchinson, Jerauld, Kingsbury, Lake, Lawrence, Lincoln, Lyman, McCook, McPherson, Meade, Miner, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington, Perkins, Potter, Roberts, Sanborn, Spink, Stanley, Todd, Turner, Union, & Yankton Counties] were reported last week. Total of 7,109 confirmed cases so far this season (7,066A & 43B).
- 13.61% positive rapid antigen tests reported statewide (147 positives (127A/20B) [Aurora, Beadle, Bennett, Brookings, Charles Mix, Codington, Clay, Dewey, Haakon, Jerauld, Lawrence, Lyman, Meade, Minnehaha, Mellette, Miner, Pennington, Spink, Sully, & Todd Counties] out of 1,080 individuals tested last week). Total 17,274 tests performed so far this season.
- 10 new influenza-associated hospitalizations (Faulk, Codington, Hughes, Hutchinson, Lincoln, Minnehaha, & Yankton Counties) were reported last week. Total of 165 hospitalizations so far this season.
- One new influenza-associated death was reported last week (Faulk County). Total of 7 deaths so far this season.
