The Class B girls basketball tournament, which starts tomorrow in Spearfish, will go on as planned despite coronavirus uncertainty and the first five known cases — and one death in the Mitchell — of the outbreak in South Dakota.
Same thing for all scheduled SDHSAA events, including the five state hoops tourneys taking shape next week (March 19-21), including the Class AA boys and girls combined event in Sioux Falls. For now.
Here is a statement from SDHSAA Executive Director Dan Swartos, sent to South Dakota media Wednesday morning:
The SDHSAA is aware of the COVID-19 cases reported in South Dakota this afternoon. All of our post-season events remain on as scheduled. We will continue to work with state departments to monitor the situation, and encourage people to follow CDC recommendations regarding hygiene, personal space, and staying home if you are sick.
