SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) – Feeding South Dakota, the state’s largest hunger relief organization, is continuing its annual tradition of providing Thanksgiving Meals for neighbors facing hunger. This year, the organization, along with 58 of its local community partners, will host giveaways throughout the month of November.
“During the holidays, we often see more neighbors turn to us for help. That’s why these meals are more than food. They’re an opportunity to spend time together celebrating traditions and making memories,” shared Lori Dykstra, CEO of Feeding South Dakota. “By providing this extra distribution in November, we’re helping families access the food they need when budgets are stretched and every meal matters.”
Feeding South Dakota’s giveaways will take place on Saturday, November 21, at the following locations:
Rapid City: 7–9 a.m. MT at Central States Fairgrounds, 800 San Francisco St.
Sioux Falls: 8–10 a.m. CT at W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds, 100 N. Lyon Blvd.
The organization is prepared to distribute food to 1,500 families at each location on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. No registration, sign-up or identification is required. An adult age 18 or older must be present to receive a meal, and a maximum of two meals will be distributed per vehicle.
As Feeding South Dakota prepares to help neighbors enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with loved ones, the generosity of donors is helping make an even greater impact. From November 2–27, the Greg and Pam Sands Foundation will match all donations to Feeding South Dakota.
“When it comes to helping as many South Dakotans as possible, Feeding South Dakota has the ability to reach communities in every corner of the state,” Greg Sands shared. “Not only will this partnership provide thousands of holiday meals for families, the matching gift will help every dollar donated go further.”
These matched gifts help Feeding South Dakota provide nutritious food to neighbors across all 66 counties, every month, through their programs and partnerships – supporting families through the holiday season and beyond.
“We know how meaningful these meals are, and we’re grateful for every volunteer, partner, and donor that helps make this possible,” said Dykstra.
