CANTON, SD (KELO.com) — The Lincoln County Commission has trimmed about Four-million dollars from its proposed 2027 budget but there’s still a structural deficit of more than $8 million.
Part of Tuesday’s budget discussion focused on the Tea Airport.
Commissioner Jim Schmidt has supported building more hangar space at the airport, which he believes will make the facility self-sustaining. Commissioner Joel Arends says a private group has a proposal to replace the Tea Airport. Because of that, he says spending more money in Tea doesn’t make sense. “Why are we giving a green light to expansion if we have not first been presented with the plan, the illustration, the numbers that will show how this will occur?”
The Commission voted to delay the issue for two weeks, to give developers at the Tea Airport time to explain the financials of their proposal.
