SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) – The Sioux Falls School District is going on offense to fight opioid abuse, thanks to a $1 million grant from a settlement with Opioid producers.
Fentanyl seizures have increased three-fold since 2018, and overdose deaths in South Dakota increased 2%.
Student Support Services Coordinator Kim Sharping says the effort at the Middle and High School level will be similar to efforts from ten years ago focusing on intervention.
The school district will work on prevention and refusal skills for elementary aged students.
The Sioux Falls grant is part of a statewide $7.8-million grant divided by ten organizataions.
