CANTON, S.D. (KELO.com) — Yesterday the Canton Police Department received a call from someone saying they had just murdered their family and that they were still armed.
The caller refused to exit the home and disconnected to call with the dispatcher.
A Canton Police Officer immediately responded to the location in less than 2 minutes.
Fortunately, officers were able to quickly determine that the murder and armed threat were false and that the incident was a swatting call.
Swatting is a deliberately false emergency report intended to provoke a significant law enforcement response.
Great job to the Canton P.D. for getting to the location as quickly as they did, without incident.
