SOIUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota has one of the highest infection rates in the nation for West Nile virus, so mosquito control is a serious matter. Sioux Falls Public Health Program Manager Jaimie Roggenbauer says this spring’s cool weather has kept the skeeters in check so far, but that will soon change with warmer weather. She says spraying activities will begin soon. “Preventing mosquitos before they hatch is the most effective tool that we have, and the vast majority of time that we have in mosquito control is focused on that proactive treatment and surveillance.”
City workers are monitoring mosquito traps to determine when the spraying will start. You can stay informed on the spraying schedule by signing up for text alerts at https://member.everbridge.net/453003085618853/login.
