SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The pace of absentee voting is picking up in Minnehaha County as election day approaches, but so far it’s slower than expected. Auditor Leah Anderson briefed County Commissioners on the numbers, saying, “Currently we have approximately 28-hundred ballots that have been voted. That was as of Friday.” She also told Commissioners absentee voting had picked up, with a record number of 280 voters casting their ballots on Friday, compared to an average prior to that in the hundreds range.
City and local elections were combined with the statewide primary election this year, in hopes of improving turnout for the local elections. Based on Anderson’s report, the verdict is still out on whether the plan is working.
