FLANDREAU, SD (KELO.com) — The man accused of killing Moody County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken Prorok in 2024 will be held in September. Defense attorneys for Joseph Hoek were asking for more time to prepare the case. Attorney General Marty Jackley says the Judge denied the request, “It’s certainly never easy for a victim’s family. ‘Justice delayed, justice denied’ is probably the best way to say it. And, there has to be a recognition that the defendant does have Constitutional rights, and those are being satisfied.”
Hoek was evading police in the Madison area, and is accused of intentionally running down Deputy Prorok as Prorok deployed tire spikes to end a high speed car chase. The trial will be held in Pennington County starting September 21st.
