CANTON, SD (KELO.com) — Opposition to hyper scale data centers was on full display in Lincoln County this week. County Commissioners rejected a proposed one-year moratorium on the centers to allow time to study the impact. That followed nearly two hours of emotional testimony. The board voted 3-2 to allow Planning and Zoning to make recommendations.
Also from Lincoln County, the city of Lennox is exploring the possibility of building a data center. The City Council approved a 25-thousand dollar budget to study the issue. Community member Scott Sandal was chosen as a consultant for the study after leading a similar study in Yankton.
