MINNEHAHA AND LINCOLN COUNTIES, SD (KELO.com) — Minnehaha County Commissioners have voted to increase their own salaries by more than 10-percent. The move was recommended by an outside consulting firm that conducted a compensation and benefits study. Several community members testified against the increase, but the commission followed the study recommendations and approved it unanimously.
At the same time, Lincoln County Commissioners also voted a five percent pay raise for themselves, but not without contention. Commissioner Joel Arends opposed the move, saying the increase is much greater than raises received by taxpayers according to government statistics. Commission Chair Tiffany Landeen led a 3-2 vote in favor of the increase.
