South Dakota (KELO.com) — South Dakota’s Unified Judicial system may have a partial solution to prison overcrowding. A study shows nearly three-fourths of the participants in the system’s treatment court program don’t commit a new crime within a five-year period. According to South Dakota News Watch, the program includes counseling, drug testing and supervision by a probation officer. The cost of the treatment courts is about one fourth the cost of incarceration.
