South Dakota’s fastest growing city is trying to slow things down, at least on Highway 115. However, the state transportation commission isn’t going for a plan to reduce the speed from 55 miles per hour to 45. Harrisburg City Administrator and Engineer, Heath VonEye, says residents are concerned for their safety. There have been numerous accidents on Highway 115 especially near Harrisburg High School. However, state traffic engineers say lowering the speed limit could actually make things worse. A left-turn lane is being extended in hopes of improving safety. The city may revisit changing the speed limit after the left-turn lane has been put in.
