Sioux Falls, SD (KELO.com) — The fight against hunger has come a long way in South Dakota in the past 50 years but there’s still more to be done. Feeding South Dakota began 50 years ago as food pantries in Sioux Falls and Rapid City. The two joined forces and have since added facilities in Pierre.Vice President of Public Relations, Stacey Andernact, says open house events to mark 50 years have been eye-opening for residents. With recent federal spending cuts and a soft economy, Andernacht says food insecurity is an important issue in the state.
