They thought they had a compromise to build a new men’s state prison in Sioux Falls. Now it appears legislators have a trust problem with current Department of Corrections Secretary Kelly Wasko. In a joint Op-Ed published by the Dakota Scout, 19 lawmakers added their names to a growing list of legislators skeptical of the current proposal, saying there’s been no explanation of why the original plan overestimated the cost by 175-million dollars. Leaders say they don’t see how legislators can move forward on the new plan unless Wasko is removed from her position.
