SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — A New wastewater treatment facility takes Smithfield Foods in Sioux Falls off the top of the list of South Dakota polluters. South Dakota NewsWatch reports the new treatment plant caused a 77-percent reduction in nitrates and ammonia released by the plant last year. Gold and Silver Mining company Wharf Resources of lead is now the top emitter of toxic chemicals. South Dakota is in the bottom 10-percent of all states for toxic emissions.
