(Brookings, SD) — Local publishers are working to revive the Brookings Register after its sudden closure. The shutdown came after a surprise closure of 25 papers across five states. Former Brookings Register editor, Josh Linehan, told the city council he’s launching a new, independently owned paper focused just on Brookings. Meanwhile, Shaun Sarvis, publisher of the Huron Plainsman, is working separately to relaunch the 4 of the regional papers that were closed down, including the Brookings Register. Josh Linehan and Shaun Sarvis are not working together on their publishing efforts. Because there’s no current Brookings newspaper, legal notices will be published in the Volga Tribune for now.
