PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — As the dust settles on the debate over property tax relief in the South Dakota legislature, just one bill remains standing. Governor Larry Rhoden’s proposal to limit property assessments to three percent for the next five years was the only tax relief measure of about 20 considered during the legislative session to survive. The House and Senate have resolved differences between each chamber’s version of the bill and sent it to the Governor for his signature.
Legislative leaders and the Governor agree, more needs to be done to provide relief for owner occupied property tax relief. The Governor’s office says it will have more to say on the topic later this week.
