PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Legislature will tackle a full slate of news conferences, committee hearings, and floor sessions today (Thur, Feb 27th) on the 29th legislative day of the 100th session. Governor Larry Rhoden will hold his weekly legislative press conference at 10:30 a.m. He will announce the next steps for the proposed new prison.
Morning committee hearings begin at 7:45 a.m. with four Senate and House committees addressing bills ranging from physical therapist licensure to funeral service training provisions. Legislative leadership will conduct their regular news conferences around 9 a.m.The Joint Committee on Appropriations meets at 10 a.m. in Room 362 to consider seven bills, including SB 56 concerning Building Authority lease payments, SB 132 for airport terminal improvement grants, and HB 1041 regarding State Library and Board provisions.
The House floor session convenes at 1 p.m. with representatives set to consider Senate amendments to HB 1093 regarding school district bond election dates. They will also take up SB 62 concerning mandatory reporting of improper governmental conduct, SB 116 on street racing prohibitions, and SB 208 dealing with school district opt-out provisions.
In the Senate’s afternoon session, lawmakers will consider multiple House bills and two joint resolutions. HJR 5001 proposes a constitutional amendment concerning Medicaid expansion, while HJR 5002 calls for a constitutional convention to establish congressional term limits.
Today is the last day to move special appropriation bills to the house of origin. Ten days remain in the 38-day legislative session.
