PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Employees have already started moving in, but legislators want to take a closer look at the lease agreement. The State Bureau of Human Resources has contracted for 30-year leases at the One-Stop government centers in Sioux Falls and Rapid City. In Sioux Falls, rent expenses increased by 270-percent compared to previous agreements, and the state spent 12-million dollars for new furniture. Yankton Representative Julie Auch is calling for legislative approval for all new leases over 20-million dollars or 15 years in duration.
Human Resources Commissioner Darin Seeley defended the One-Stop leases, saying the administration was transparent and presented details to the Legislature in 2023 and 2024.
