PIERRE, SD (KELO.COM) — You’ll have to be a citizen if you want to vote in South Dakota. That’s the goal of two measures approved in a Senate Committee this morning, including a proposed constitutional amendment. One bill would make it a felony for non-citizens to vote in state elections. That is a move supported by military veterans, including Nicole Braithwaite.
Samantha Chapman of the ACLU testified against the measure, saying there’s already protection against the practice.
That bill passed, along with a resolution to place a constitutional amendment on next year’s ballot making citizenship a requirement for voting.
