PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota Legislators have taken the first step in placing a proposed constitutional Amendment on the 2026 ballot. It deals with Medicaid Expansion, which was placed in the Constitution by voters in 2022. The plan provides medical treatment for people who can’t afford it, with the Federal Government paying 90-percent of the tab, and the state covering the remaining ten percent. Sioux Falls Representative Tony VenHuizen says the Constitution should be amended again, to give the state the option to drop out of expanded Medicaid if the Federal government reduces the amount it covers.
The resolution to approve placing the amendment on the election ballot now goes to the full House for consideration.
