SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Minnehaha County won’t be moving toward a Home Rule Charter – at least not right now. There was a firestorm of reaction to the proposal a week ago, and Commissioners appeared to be headed toward placing the idea before voters this fall. The Home Rule Charter would have eliminated the elected offices of treasurer, auditor and register of deeds. Treasurer Chris Swanson and Auditor Leah Anderson spoke against it.
Commissioners Joe Kippley and Dean Karsky proposed the change. Kippley said Tuesday, now is not the time.
Kippley says the idea could be reconsidered in the future, during a different election cycle.
