SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The latest product from the humble soybean is boasting big benefits for the environment, farmers and firefighters. Cross Plains Solutions has created SoyFoam, which is an effective fire suppressant. Unlike similar products that have been used for decades, it doesn’t contain harmful PFA’s, known as “forever chemicals,” which can cause cancer. Matt McCranie has been busy planting soybeans on his northern South Dakota farm this week. He’s also a firefighter who has been involved in testing the new product.
Producers believe SoyFoam has the potential of creating new demand for 12-million bushels of soybeans a year.
