DES MOINES, IA (KELO.com) — Concerns over Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza – Bird Flu – are growing. Eight states, including South Dakota, have now reported “spillover” infections in dairy herds. So far, there aren’t any dairy cases in Iowa, but state Veterinarian Jeff Kaisand says there are a lot of unknowns.
Kaisand says it appears that some of the spread has come from cow to cow, so dairy farmers are being asked to exercise extra caution in buying and transporting their animals.
