DELL RAPIDS, SD (KELO.com) — They were greeted at gunpoint in their own home. Captain Josh Phillips of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office says three adults returned home just off I-29 at the Dell Rapids Exit. They went to the garage after hearing a noise.
Captain Phillips says drones were used, and 47 year old Johnnie Hawkins, Jr. was arrested with the help of Sioux Falls Police and Highway Patrol officers. He’s charged with Burglary, aggravated assault, and attempted robbery, as well as drug and weapons charges. He’s also likely to be charged by Sioux Falls Police. Detectives found a stolen vehicle on North Marion Road yesterday afternoon. The driver rammed an unmarked police car, and two detectives received minor injuries. There was a pursuit, but officers broke it off. Police say the car was stolen Sunday morning, unlocked with the keys inside.
