SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls city leaders are working to pull kids out of trouble – before they get there. Mayor Paul TenHaken and Police Chief Jon Thum made a call for help Tuesday morning, and the only thing required is some time. The mayor says the focus is on mentoring kids who need some help.
Sioux Falls Teammates is one of the organizations that helps provide mentors for the school district. Executive Director Brianna Venekamp says when students are paired with mentors, grades go up and disciplinary referrals go down.
The Sioux Falls School District has identified almost four-hundred students who are waiting for mentors. You can go to siouxfallsteammates.org for more information.
