SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Governor Kristi Noem is sending troops to the southern border.
Noem announced that she will deploy at least 50 South Dakota National Guard troops to the U.S./Mexico border.
She joins 12 other Republican governors, including Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, in helping Texas respond to the ongoing border crisis.
Two years ago, Noem was the first governor to deploy National Guard troops to the southern border at the request of the governors of Texas and Arizona.
Monthly border encounters have increased by 536% since President Biden took office.
Average monthly encounters are up to 204,566 to-date in fiscal year 2023.
Prior to the Biden Administration, recorded border encounters had only ever been higher than 200,000 in one month in history, which was 23 years ago.
The troops will be deployed later this summer.
Yes, the @SD_Guard deployment to the border is being paid for by Emergency & Disaster Funds. That is how these type of activations are ALWAYS paid for.

In fact, it's precisely how the deployment to the border 2 years ago was paid for.
The border is an EMERGENCY. It's a warzone.
