SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Human Sex and Labor Trafficking is a crime that’s been reported in every county in the United States. It’s expected to get worse this week, with the expiration of Title 42, a provision allowing the U.S. to deport illegal immigrants due to health concerns. Becky Rasmussen, the founder of Call to Freedom, says people who want to take advantage of those seeking work in the U.S. are waiting for the new arrivals.
Rasmussen’s organization, Call to Freedom, helps people to break free from the web of human trafficking. Area packing plants have been charged with child labor law violations in connection with the flow of migrants into the country. Rasmussen says there is an active federal investigation of the problem.
Rasmussen says there are several tell-tale signs to watch for that will help you identify labor trafficking victims.
If you suspect someone is a victim of sex or labor trafficking you should report it to the Department of Homeland Security or local authorities. If you are a victim you can contact Call to Freedom (https://calltofreedom.org/).
