More than 250-million unanswered phone calls – Senator John Thune says that’s the dismal track record for the IRS in 2021. On income tax day, he attacked massive budget increases given to the IRS, saying it’s past time for greater accountability. From the floor of the U.S. Senate, Mr. Thune said, “Any business with that kind of track record would be out of business!”
The Senator also referred to sloppy handling of taxpayer information, which was inadvertently posted to the IRS website “not once, but twice!” Senator Thune decried the $80-billion budget increase given to the agency last year, and said the Biden Administration is asking for another 15% increase this year. He pledged, “As we move forward, I’ll continue to do everything I can to push for accountability at the IRS and make sure that taxpayers’ rights are respected – and that Americans’ tax dollars are being used responsibly.”
