SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — With the multi-day winter storm finally in the rearview mirror, a long road lies ahead for crews working to clean up Sioux Falls’ streets.
City officials held a briefing Wednesday to highlight the efforts put forth by not only city workers, but emergency responders, and even tow truck drivers, in the wake of the storm that dropped more than a foot of snow on the city.
On Tuesday, the Sioux Falls Police Department issued a No Travel Advisory.
Police Chief Jon Thum said that they want residents to take advisories issued by the department seriously.
City Emergency Manager Regan Smith highlighted just how many vehicles became stuck between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
Street Operations Manager Dustin Smith says the cleanup effort for this storm may take anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks to fully complete.
Meanwhile, Jeff Garden with the Sioux Falls Police Department had an important message for drivers.
During the briefing, Mayor Paul TenHaken also shared his condolences with the Minnehaha County snow plow operator who passed away from a medical emergency while plowing snow during the storm.
The overall message of the briefing was to stay patient as crews work to clear city streets, and to help others who may be in need of assistance in clearing a driveway, a car from a snowpile, or by walking someone across the street.
