SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — An investigation into stolen construction materials by Sioux Falls Police led to an arrest and the recovery of construction equipment worth more than $80,000.
Police say they first received a report of stolen equipment from a construction site on November 28.
Surveillance footage from the site was able to capture the license plate from a truck leaving the scene.
Authorities were then able to obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s home, located in the 1700 block of East Sage Place.
During the search, police discovered more than $80,000 worth of equipment that had been stolen from more than a dozen construction sites.
Items recovered included sheathing, doors, windows, cabinets, and tools.
Police say that the suspect would travel to different sites during the overnight hours and steal various materials from each one.
The suspect, 60-year-old Jerry Lynn Hood was arrested a short time later without incident.
Police say they consulted with the State Attorney’s Office and decided to charge Hood with one count of Possession of Stolen Property, a class 5 felony.
