SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A parole absconder is back behind bars after leading authorities on a chase that ended as a hostage situation in central Sioux Falls.
The incident began shortly before 5 P.M. Tuesday after State Troopers attempted to pull over 28-year-old Maureo Murdock near 6th and Grange.
Murdock refused to pull over, striking a trooper’s vehicle while fleeing, and eventually crashed out near 13th and Duluth.
He then ran through several backyards before forcing his way into a locked home in the 600 block of South Duluth Avenue.
Authorities set up a perimeter and knocked on doors in the neighborhood looking for Murdock.
An officer then discovered him inside one of the homes holding a 65-year-old man hostage and threatening to kill him.
Murdock did not have a weapon and was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
He was arrested on several charges including Kidnapping, Eluding, and Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement.
The 65-year-old kidnapping victim was not harmed during the encounter.
