BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sheriff’s Department says scammers make a phone call appearing as if it’s coming from their number.
When answered, the caller states they are a Sergeant with the agency and that they hold a warrant for failing to appear in court or for failure to appear for a subpoena.
They will then ask for money or personal information.
The Department says not to give any information over the phone if you get a call like this.
They say warrants can only be taken care of by either being arrested or turning yourself in and then posting the bond at the Detention Center and signing for a court date.
If you have any questions about this process or suspect you may have a warrant please contact them at 605-696-8300.
