SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN.com) – Here’s your morning sports update for Friday, January 21, 2022.
– South Dakota State men’s basketball stayed undefeated in Summit League play with a 92-77 victory over St. Thomas last night. The Jackrabbits trailed by five at halftime and the game was tied with just under six minutes left, but SDSU went on a 20-5 run in the closing minutes. Alex Arians led the Jackrabbits with a career-high 20 points. They’re 7-0 in conference play and 16-4 overall.
– South Dakota men’s basketball had their game at Western Illinois last night postponed. It’s the third time the Coyotes have had a conference game postponed due to health and safety protocols.
– South Dakota women’s basketball grinded out a win over Western Illinois last night. The Coyotes were down by one at halftime, but came out firing in the third quarter, forcing 10 turnovers and going on a 16-0 run at one point. Four Coyotes tallied double-figures in the game led by fifth-year senior Liv Korngable’s game-high 16 points. The Yotes are 8-0 in the Summit League and have won 13 straight games, the longest active winning streak in the country.
– South Dakota State women’s basketball blew out St. Thomas in Brookings last night, 88-47. The Jackrabbits outscored the Tommies 26-8 in the second quarter to take control of the game. The jacks mad 10 threes in 14 attempts, including six of their first six. Tylee Irwin and Myah Selland each had 16 points for SDSU, who improve to 7-1 in the Summit League.
– The Minnesota Vikings have completed their first round of general manager interviews. They met virtually with Cleveland vice president of player personnel Glenn Cook and New England scouting consultant Eliot Wolf. Philadelphia defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon also interviewed for head coach. Wolf and Cook became the seventh and eighth external candidates to interview with the Vikings for the general manager vacancy.
– Caitlin Clark had her second straight triple double and Iowa women’s basketball rolled to a 105-49 win over Minnesota last night. Clark had 35 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists.
