SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Authorities are investigating the cause of a house fire early Thursday afternoon
The blaze occurred at a home on South Frederick Drive.
Firefighters spotted heavy smoke around the chimney.
The fire damaged the first and second floors of the home.
An occupant and two pets escaped prior to the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue’s arrival.
Fire rescue reported no injuries.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: On December 16th, 2021, at approximately 12:50 p.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 1600 block of South Frederick Dr. Initial reports were that the fireplace had caught the house on fire. The single adult occupant and two pets were outside of the structure upon arrival of the fire department. The first arriving fire unit found heavy smoke coming from the roof, in the area of the chimney.
Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the blaze on both the first and second floor of the structure. They were able to extinguish the fire after approximately 20 minutes from arriving on-scene. They continued to work for an hour after to ensure the fire was extinguished. Fire damage was sustained to both the first and second floor of the home. One adult resident was displaced and assistance was offered to them from the American Red Cross.
There were no injuries reported from responders. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 4 fire trucks, 3 support vehicles, and 22 firefighters.
