SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Xcel Energy crews prepare for Upper Midwest winter storm tomorrow. They are ready to restore if power is lost.
Tips for staying safe include: stay clear of downed power lines, treat any electric line as potentially live, and report fallen wires immediately! If power goes out, keep fridge and freezer doors closed to preserve food safety.
Keep on hand a home emergency kit with flashlights, battery-powered radio and phone, extra batteries and phone chargers. Add to that plenty of bottled water and non-perishable food, a manual can opener, and first aid supplies.
To report an outage, download the Xcel Energy mobile app on iOS or Android. Text ‘OUT’ to 98936 to report an outage, or text ‘STAT’ to check the status.

Or, you may call 1-800-895-1999 and follow the automated prompts in under 60 seconds. Once the cause is determined, Xcel will advise of the estimated restoration time.
