SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) – Sioux Falls Police Chief Jon Thum has a message for people leaving their keys in unlocked cars.
“We are not Mayberry. You cannot leave your keys in your ignition and expect good things to happen,” Chief Thum told the City Council.
Thum was briefing the City Council on the crime trends in the city.
While most serious crime has seen a drop, car thefts have been on the rise. Out of 27 cars recently stolen, 25 of them had their keys in them.
Thum says it is a crime that can be prevented with a simple action.
