SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Unseasonably high temperatures and gusty winds make for dangerous fire conditions in the Sioux Falls area Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

GUSTS: 25-35 mph

The service says people should avoid throwing cigarettes on the ground and be careful with outdoor equipment that may cause sparks.

Today and tonight:
Westerly winds will be breezy today, with sustained winds as high as 20 mph and gusts to 35 mph. This will result in very high fire weather conditions throughout the afternoon.
People are urged to exercise extreme care with respect to outdoor activities that could cause grass fires. Avoid equipment that can cause sparks near dry grass or brush. Do not toss cigarettes on the ground. Report new fires quickly to the nearest fire department or law enforcement office.
