SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A new candidate is entering the race for citywide office in Sioux Falls.
Taneeza Islam says she’s announcing a run Tuesday. An immigration attorney, Islam is the founder of South Dakota Voices for Peace, an advocacy group for immigrant, refugee and Muslim communities.
She will become the first first-generation Muslim-American to run for citywide office in Sioux Falls, according to her campaign.
She did not specify which office she’s running for. Mayor Paul TenHaken and two at-large city councilors are up for reelection in April.
Her announcement is set for 3:30 p.m. at Meldrum Park.
