SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) – During Monday’s public input at the Sioux Falls School Board meeting, the comments were unanimously in favor of keeping masks optional for Sioux Falls students. While the Continue to Learn plan, the District’s current COVID-19 policy, was not on the agenda, all public comment was focused squarely on praising the Board for keeping the plan unchanged and masks optional. One commenter was a Lincoln High School student. She said not having to wear a mask was making her year 100% better. Zoe shared that last school year, she chose not to wear a mask and had felt pressured by classmates. She said this year there was no pushback. She also proudly stated that last year she maintained perfect attendance. Other people voicing support for keeping the policy unchanged included parents, staff, and a district bus driver. At the previous school board meeting, 3 parents (2 of whom were doctors) requested that the School Board change the mask policy to require the face coverings.
So far, the School Board has not moved to reconsider the current plan.
