YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) — The South Dakota Department of Corrections has hired a California consulting company to do an extensive study of operations at the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls.
Corrections Department interim Secretary Tim Reisch said the study will cost about $166,000, paid out of the state’s general fund. The study will begin at the end of this month and last for four months.
Reisch said workers with CGL Companies will study in three teams. One will address the prison’s “cultural environment,” another will examine “process and policy,” and another will conduct “organizational review.”
Reisch spoke before the state’s Joint Committee on Appropriations this week.
Gov. Kristi Noem fired the warden and deputy warden of the prison earlier this summer after a whistleblower alleged harassment.
