SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The carpentry shop at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls was damaged by fire yesterday.
At approximately 12:55 yesterday, a fire broke out in the Pheasantland Industries shop inside the prison.
The area was quickly evacuated, and 3 staff were taken to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation.
No prisoners required medical attention.
The shop suffered smoke and fire damage, but the extent of the damage is unknown.
The fire may have been started by a faulty exhaust fan, but the investigation is ongoing at this time.
