SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Both Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County are poised to put medical marijuana regulations in place Tuesday.
Both bodies are considering second readings of ordinances to regulate medical pot, which becomes legal in South Dakota on July 1.
The city’s ordinance would effectively bar marijuana sales in the city until the state passes its own regulations. The state has until October 29 to put regulations in place.
South Dakota voters overwhelmingly approved the law allowing for medical marijuana in November, and state legislators disagreed on potential changes. Local governments across the state are stepping in to pass their own regulations in the absence of clear guidelines from Pierre.
